This morning took to the streets of Kyoto to explore this famous ancient city. Apparently General McArthur ordered that Kyoto be spared bombing during the Second World War on account of its priceless heritage and as a result many of the streets are unchanged from the feudal period (with the addition of electricity, plumbing and the ubiquitous vending machines). Kyoto has everything - big city lifestyle, ancient temples and gardens, cultural events both old and new...I could have spent a long time exploring, but I only had a weekend, so I decided to take it easy.
